I think a lot about living spaces because I work in architecture. The apartment buildings you see in my Underwater Town look different than the boxes here in Seattle, but they function very similarly. Seattle has a lot of streets that drop off into ravines, turn at 90 degree angles, or impossible 5 street intersections. Even though we have a semblance of order and a grid, we are governed by the natural space, and sometimes it literally feels like things are growing on top of us, or we are being squeezed. All this points to the natural world, where in order to make something look convincingly natural, you have to make it messy.
