This Hand Tree hung above my grandparents' mantle for many years and now that they have both passed away, it has been returned to me. I always wondered how they felt about being gifted such an odd piece of art. The hand tree is not particularly beautiful. I showed up to my Sculpture class without having prepared a vector image to render in 3d extruded cardboard. I quickly sketched my hands in a formation that I thought was artistically intriguing, and then had to spend the next several months paying for that bad decision carving and glueing each intricate detail in the weird shapes of my hands.

During that time in the studio, I learned how much I loved to put my head down and do a complicated, repetitive task. I learned that I loved being in the studio at 1 am, especially when there were 1 or 2 other people doing their own thing, sharing silent company. I named it Robert Plant because of the many hours I spent listening to Led Zeppelin.

Shown at The Fishbowl Gallery "Just Keep Swimming" show, April 2024.
